Team Run Flagstaff

ABout

Team Run Flagstaff opens the running experience to people of all ability levels and interests. Through organized training, expert coaching, and educational workshops, the group cultivates an atmosphere that allows elite runners and beginners to share the same track, pursuing individual goals with a sense of camaraderie. Social events and volunteer opportunities build an even stronger sense of community.

Team Run Flagstaff began in 2006 as a community running program affiliated with the Center For High Altitude Training, which was an Olympic Training Site. Under the direction of legendary Coach Jack Daniels, it was then called Team Altius, based on the Olympic motto, “Citius, Altius, Fortius,” which translates to “Swifter, Higher, Stronger.” After the Center for High Altitude Training Center closed in 2009, member interest, love for the program, and the efforts of a core crew including founding Coach Mike Smith kept it alive. In 2010, the community running group found new life as Team Run Flagstaff.

Today, members share their love of fitness, health, and sport with group runs, cross training, track workouts, social events, races, and educational offerings that cover everything from trail safety to nutrition.

Meet your Coaches

mike Smith - Head Coach & Founder

Where do we even start...Mike Smith is a staple and beloved figure to the Flagstaff community. Upon meeting Mike Smith you will see what makes him a great Coach. He brings an earthly approach to coaching, training, and developing long-lasting relationships to help support and elevate those around him.

Mike currently serves not only as our Head Coach but also as the Director of Cross Country and Track & Field for the highly decorated Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks.

Coach Smith brings so much to the table, and he can't wait to see you push yourself with a smile on your face every Tuesday night!

Leah Rosenfeld - Assistant Coach

We welcome back Leah Rosenfeld into her 8th year of coaching Team Run Flagstaff! Leah comes to us rocking out with her 80s-90s playlists and rolling on the trails. In her recent switch from track to trails, she managed to win four out of five of her first trail races in 2021, including Imogene and our near and dear Soulstice Mountain Trail Run.

Leah also brings with her a combination of professional running and coaching experience, as she formerly coached Cross Country and Track and Field at Syracuse and our hometown team, NAU. She is currently a personal running coach through VDOT 02 online and worldwide iFIT Trainer for Nordic Track, Pro Form, and Free Motion machines. She enjoys long walks on Hart Prairie Road, Diablo Burger, her bengal cats Akira and Bhalu, and the endless depth to our community in Flagstaff.

Matt Llano - Assistant Coach

Coach Matt Llano started Find Your Fast Coaching in 2020 with 6+ years of run coaching experience under other coaching services. Fun fact: Matt also has more than 9 years of experience coaching youth swimmers, starting his first business at just 12 years old. Matt is also an accomplished runner himself - he holds personal bests of 2:11:14 for the marathon and 61:47 for the half marathon, represented Team USA at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, placed 6th in the 2016 US Olympic Marathon Trials, and was a several-time All-American while competing at the University of Richmond in college. He currently resides in Flagstaff, Arizona with his partner, Brannon, and their two dogs, Harlow and Pekoe.
